Miracle Academy was born when founder Gregory Mullen could not find the right school for his daughter, Miracle, who has Down syndrome. He built one. Today the Birmingham Christian school serves more than 130 students, nearly half of whom receive special education services, through small classes, individualized instruction and strong family partnership. Most students come from low-income families, and demand continues to grow. What began as one father’s answer for one child has become an inclusive school community — and a model that other educators are already visiting and learning from.
