About
The Cristo Rey Network has grown over the last 27 years from one school in southwest Chicago to a national network of 39 high schools enrolling 12,300 students and claiming 25,000 alumni. Serving youth from families in the lowest income quartile, Cristo Rey schools blend rigorous academics with professional work experience. Through special authorization from the U.S. Department of Labor, every student works one day each week in a professional job during all four years of high school. Through this Corporate Work Study experience, Cristo Rey students earn a majority of the cost of their private education, providing schools with a sustainable funding model while allowing students to gain skills and knowledge that can’t be replicated in the classroom. Winning the million dollar Yass Prize would enable Cristo Rey to more rapidly scale new and evolving trends in the workplace and continue to pursue its goal of enrolling 20,000 students in 50 schools.
